Somatosensory Approach

Yoga for Autism and Special Needs is a multi-sensory yoga-based structure following a bottom-up approach.

This starts with:

(1)

tapping into the 5 senses;

(2)

teaching body parts and connection to body-mind awareness;

(3)

offering movement and poses that cross the mid-line;

(4)

providing vestibular and proprioceptive input;

(5)

emphasizing connecting to "sensations" in the body, how the body feels, along with identification of different emotions;

(6) providing opportunity to release energy/emotion from the body through a somatic/physical experience;

(7) personalizing classes to meet the diverse and unique needs of each child.

All these aim to modulate the child's sensory system to help regulate the nervous system and exercise the brain to bring about a state of balance.
